Every Mage change from beta to launch

Mage tuning came in four waves. Blizzard published beta development notes on September 24, October 1 and October 15. Then Wowhead found hotfixes on the live Forever servers on October 30. That last wave is not in Blizzard's development notes yet, so treat its numbers as current but not final.

What Mages ask next

Why does Ice Lance have a cooldown now?

Ice Lance got its full 300% bonus against frozen targets back on October 30, and in exchange it now has an 8-second cooldown, per Wowhead. On October 15, Blizzard had cut that bonus to 200%. The hotfix restores the damage but limits how often you can cast it.

In practice, Ice Lance is now a burst button you press after Frost Nova or a Frostbite proc, not a spell you spam while kiting. Incineration at rank 5 also adds 10% crit chance to it, so the two talents work together.

How does Arcane Blast work in WoW: Forever?

Arcane Blast is a 1.5-second cast. Each cast stacks a Spell Damage buff based on your Intellect, up to 4 stacks. Blizzard redesigned it on October 15 and cut its damage and coefficients by 40%. The October 30 hotfix sets each stack to 12% of Intellect and the buff to 18 seconds.

At four stacks, you are carrying Spell Damage worth 48% of your Intellect. Wowhead also lists its mana-cost increase at 100%, down from 175%. That makes long Arcane chains easier on your mana than the mid-October build was.

What does Accelerant do?

Accelerant is the old Improved Fireball talent under a new name, and it now also shortens the cast of Arcane Wrath. Arcane Wrath is the new 16-point Arcane talent. It is a 3.5-second cast with base damage close to Fireball's, plus bonus damage as if you had extra Spell Power equal to 5% of your maximum mana, on a 6-second cooldown.

The interesting part is the link between trees: a Fire talent now speeds up an Arcane spell. That reads as a nudge toward Fire and Arcane hybrid builds, though Blizzard has not published a recommended build.

Which Mage talents were renamed or removed?

Three Mage names changed before launch. Improved Fireball became Accelerant, Elemental Precision became Precision (it now raises all hit chance), and Hot Streak became Heating Up. Arcane Focus was removed entirely.

On October 15, Missile Barrage also moved to row 1 as a 2-point talent and Fire Power was redesigned. Blizzard has not detailed the new Fire Power in anything we can confirm. Critical Mass has gone back and forth: up to 10% at rank 5 in mid-October, then down to 6% at rank 3 after the October 30 hotfix.

What changed for leveling a Frost Mage?

Frost leveling now runs through Frost Blast instead of a downranked Frostbolt. Frost Blast arrives at level 24. It is a 1.5-second cast that deals damage and slows by 40%, it benefits from all Frostbolt talents, and it costs more mana. Blizzard added it because low spell ranks now get less benefit from Spell Damage and a lower chance to trigger talents.

Blizzard's own example: a Rank 1 Frostbolt cast at level 60 has a 0% chance to trigger Frostbite. Ice Barrier's Frost damage bonus rising to 15% and Winter's Chill adding 20% to your next Cone of Cold both make the Frost tree hit harder while you level.

If you would rather have a vetted player beside you while you learn the new rotation, PewPewShop offers coaching and play-together help for leveling and the new dungeons. Dungeon runs start from 23 EUR and begin with the launch on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ice Lance have a cooldown in WoW: Forever?

Yes. Per Wowhead's October 30, 2026 report on live-server hotfixes, Ice Lance now has an 8-second cooldown and deals 300% bonus damage to frozen targets, up from the 200% set in Blizzard's October 15 beta notes. These hotfixes are not in Blizzard's development notes yet and may change.

What is Arcane Wrath in WoW: Forever?

Arcane Wrath is the new 16-point Arcane Mage talent. It is a 3.5-second cast with base damage similar to Fireball, plus bonus damage as if the Mage had extra Spell Power equal to 5% of maximum mana, on a 6-second cooldown. The Accelerant talent shortens its cast time.

What is Frost Blast in WoW: Forever?

Frost Blast is a Mage spell learned at level 24. It is a 1.5-second cast that deals damage and slows the target by 40%. It benefits from all Frostbolt talents and costs more mana. Blizzard added it because downranked spells now get less from Spell Damage and rarely trigger talents.

When can you get dual spec in WoW: Forever?

Dual specialization unlocks at level 40. A Blizzard developer has said on the official podcast that the team is discussing a lower level, but nothing has been announced. Talents open at level 10, and respecs are done at a class trainer in a major city.

Which races can be Mages in WoW: Forever?

Forever keeps the Classic Mage races and adds new options. Orc Mage is one of the six new race and class combinations, and Alliance Skyborne from the High Order can also be Mages. Horde Skyborne can't be Mages. They can be Shamans instead.
