What the nerf means for Hunters

The hotfix cuts the size of two Hunter buffs. Abilities, talents and pet families stay the same. The questions below are the ones most players ask next.

Which stat do the new Aspect of the Hawk numbers change?

Wowhead published the rank values without saying which stat they apply to, so the only safe reading is that the buff got smaller. The live tooltip on November 4 will show exactly what each point gives you.

The scale is clear, though. A Rank 5 Hawk at 47 instead of 90 is a big drop for a buff a Hunter keeps up almost all the time. The early ranks were cut too, so leveling Hunters feel it from the first rank. Beast Mastery's Deadly Aspects talent (formerly Improved Aspect of the Hawk) is not in the hotfix list.

Does Trueshot Aura still matter in WoW: Forever raids?

Trueshot Aura is still a raid-wide buff. It is just smaller now. Blizzard's October 15 beta notes made it raid-wide, and the Hunter deep dive moved it to row 4 of Marksmanship as the 21-point milestone talent.

The cut reduces what a raid gains from bringing a Marksmanship Hunter, but the reason to bring one is still there. Raids open on December 9 (Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair), so the numbers have time to move again, up or down, before anyone builds a roster around them.

Is Hunter still a good class to play in WoW: Forever?

Hunter keeps its whole leveling toolkit. The nerf shrinks two buffs and leaves the class's tools alone. Forever Hunters get Aimed Shot baseline at level 20, traps you can use in combat on a 30-second cooldown, the new Fox pet family, and Lone Wolf (20% more damage with no active pet) as an 11-point Marksmanship talent.

Here is the honest downside. Hunters still cannot stun or interrupt, they keep the 8-yard dead zone, and Auto Shot only fires after you stand still for 0.5 seconds. Nobody has launch balance data yet, so read every “Hunter is dead” post from the last day as a guess.

What changed with Elixir of Wisdom in WoW: Forever?

Elixir of Wisdom lost half its strength and half its duration: it now gives 3 Intellect for 30 minutes, down from 6 Intellect for an hour. It is a low-level vendor recipe that needs Alchemy 90, so the change mostly hits leveling casters and alchemists who planned to sell it early.

In an interview with Friends Per Second, Blizzard's Clay Stone said Alchemy may be reworked to matter less for raiding. One low-level elixir proves nothing about that plan, but the nerf points the same way.

Are the October 28 Hunter numbers final?

Nobody outside Blizzard can call them final. They were found in live data rather than announced in patch notes, and Wowhead warns they may be outdated or change.
