On the PTR, Talebound gives Venomous Abyss raid gear through achievement caches. Eight achievements give gear caches: one Normal, five Heroic and two Mythic. You can only earn the Mythic ones on Mythic Talebound difficulty.
In practice, that means a solo or small-group player gets at most two Mythic caches from the mode. Nobody has to step into the Mythic raid for them. That is useful for a player who never raids, but it does not replace a weekly Mythic lockout for someone gearing a main.

Can the Cache of Mythic Treasures give Myth 9/6 gear?
No one knows yet. Wowhead says it is unclear whether the Mythic cache can give Myth 9/6 items. Expect Mythic Venomous Abyss loot, and treat a fully upgraded piece as a bonus until the patch is live.
The 40 Myth crests from the mode are worth noting either way. They go toward upgrading whatever Myth-track item you get from the cache.
Can you earn the Mythic cache in the Talebound demo this weekend?
Not as far as the announced content goes. Blizzard's public demo runs on the 12.1.7 PTR from October 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT until November 2, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. It offers three tales (Darkhaven, Greenthistle Wood and Greywake's Expedition) on Normal, Veteran and Heroic difficulty.
The demo does not list a Mythic difficulty. PTR progress also stays on the PTR. The demo is still a free way to learn the mode, because it needs no subscription and includes all three classes.
When does Talebound come out on live servers?
Talebound comes with patch 12.1.7, and Blizzard has not announced a release date for it. The mode is only on the PTR right now. Until a date is announced, the only Mythic Venomous Abyss loot you can actually get comes from the raid.
What else does Talebound give besides raid loot?
On the PTR, Talebound also gives the Wood-Cursed Hearthstone, the Hexed Tiny Tome pet toy, a campsite called The Fate of Quillgrave and profession crates. Four puzzle achievements each give a potion with a 10% experience boost for 2 hours. Like the gear caches, all of these are datamined and unconfirmed.
Talebound caches or the Mythic raid?
For anyone who raids Mythic every week, the raid is still the main source of Mythic gear. Talebound adds two one-time caches on top of that.
